Dear All, Tonight we had some good news in the protracted - TopicsExpress

Dear All, Tonight we had some good news in the protracted battle against the poorly planned East West Link: Moreland Council voted 6-2 to challenge the Ministers decision in court. Moreland called a special meeting at 6pm and voted to support a judicial review of the Ministers approval of the project. You can read more about Morelands decision here in The Age. Now that one Council has taken the brave step to take the Minister to court (not literally, but it sounds dramatic), there is a possibility that Yarra and Moonee Valley may support Moreland and join the action. But the deadline for lodging a challenge is Monday. Councils will need to make a decision on Monday.* What you can do: Please consider contacting your councillors in Moonee Valley and Yarra over the weekend by email or phone. Please urge them to support Morelands legal action. We need them to have the courage to support residents who will be affected by the East West Link but who cant possibly afford Supreme Court costs. And of course, some of the biggest impacts fall on vulnerable residents in Flemington, Kensington, Parkville and Collingwood - as well as parkland and community gardens. You can find Councillor details here: Moonee Valley: mvcc.vic.gov.au/about-the-council/councillors.aspx (Crs Nicole Marshall and Jim Cusack are already supportive) Yarra: yarracity.vic.gov.au/Your-Council/Councillors/ The City of Melbourne did not support legal action when they voted on the matter - but it cant hurt to contact the Councillors if you live in Melbourne. Many thanks (and stay safe on this otherwise very sad day), Rose Rose Iser
