Dear British Airways: As a frequent customer of yours I’m writing in regards to a very distasteful experience I had with your company. I booked a flight to New York City on February 24th 2014, using part Avios to upgrade, in fact 60,000 of them. My ref number on that flight was 4ITIDI. As a loyal customer who frequently flies on British Airways, and have been accumulating my Avios points for some time, I am sad at having to result in Facebooking for a response to my complaint of March 20th. Upon returning from a trip to Japan (BA Business - I like to be loyal) I had two days before my departure to NYC. I got struck with a fever which left me in bed for 48 hours straight. There was no way I could fly and upon phoning to cancel I was I told I would not be entitled to any refund or return of Avios as I was within the 24 hour period of flying... I am profusely sorry not to time my fevers better, I wish I had that control. I explained to customer service that I did not care about the £400 on the fare side as that had been paid and as far as I was concerned, gone. I didnt even ask for the refund on the £50 advance I paid for choosing an exit seat (you know the ones that should be occupied by willing and able bodies in case of an emergency, but you sell to anyone for £50).. I just wanted the 60,000 Avios that I had relentlessly earned through remaining loyal to a brand... and I am sure my seat was resold. What would it really take for a company such as yourself to actually refund customers their hard earned loyalty points... nothing. Except you would remain the respect and continued loyalty of said customer. Maybe this post will yield a response to my complaint of March 20th (British Airways Customer Reference: 12053519) better than just telling me to write to Customer Refunds (which incidentally I have also done with no response) My BA Executive Number is 20669662 and I look forward to hearing positively from you. Thank you.
