Dear CRACKER BARREL Guest Relations Old Country Computer, About 7 days ago, you acknowledged receiving my ADA complaint. But I have not received a reply stating what you will do about the ADA violation at the cashiers station at your Milford CT location. I had explained that your server gave me a ticket directing me to pay at the cashier. And at the cashier there was no counter at the height ADA has been mandating for the past 24 years. Also, the keypad I needed to enter my PIN was on a counter above my head; and the keypad was fixed in place. The cashier was unable to hand it to me. Even if she could have given it to me, I have only one hand. (Two hands are needed: one to hold the keypad; the other, to type.) You need a counter there for wheelchair persons. Had there been a counter for PWDs like me, I could have entered my PIN if the keypad had been on a counter I could reach. Please take note: Provide a counter on an accessible route such that a portion of the counter is at least 36 inches wide and no more than 36 inches above the finished floor, or provide an auxiliary counter with a maximum height of 36 inches in close proximity to the main counter, or provide equivalent facilitation. Equivalent facilitation may be provided in the form of a folding shelf attached to the main counter, an auxiliary table nearby, a clip board made available to the public, or other means. ADA Standards § 7.2(2). I will be visiting this location Friday, July 25, at 12:00 noon, probably with reporters I am inviting who cant believe that 24 years after ADAs enactment, a large corporation denies accommodation at its cashiers station.
