Dear Dear Boy Scout Hillers, I wish we could discuss wildlife, - TopicsExpress

Dear Dear Boy Scout Hillers, I wish we could discuss wildlife, coyote sightings, and prairie grasses, but I have to bring up Dallas politics which we all need to be watching. The last thing I would do is suggest that you vote for or against anyone or any party. I simply would like to make sure that you all saw the attached DMN story and add my 2 cents, which means you are paying too much! The Mayor is deciding whether to run again. Im guessing he will. Before that time, if you attend ANY campaign meeting with Mayor Rawlings (or any candidate), please ask (meaning try to pin them down on video) about his vision for White Rock Lake Park. The Mayor is a businessman and hed rightfully like the city to generate more revenue to offset the massive expense of running Big D. Unfortunately for nature lovers, plants, and critters, putting multi-million dollar businesses on the east side of White Rock Lake could generate enough revenue for park maintenance, or more. Even if we pin Mayor Rawlings down in campaign promises, a second term would be his term limit and historically, that is when a past politician or two havent necessarily kept their promises. Mayor Rawlings would probably keep his promises though. East Dallasites need to be particularly in tune to the upcoming 2015 election. Please consider these excerpts from a recent DMN article: Two top aides to Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings are weighing campaigns for City Council. Sam Merten, the mayor’s spokesman, said he’s “seriously considering” a campaign in Lakewood, where Sheffie Kadane is term-limited. Adam McGough, the mayor’s chief of staff, said he’s looking at a run in Lake Highlands, where Jerry Allen’s seat will be open. Merten said he recently moved into Kadane’s district from a place in west Oak Cliff. He had previously lived for a couple of years in the district and said he “missed it.” If all three run, Rawlings will probably have to ward off criticism that he’s trying to stack the council with friendly faces. Nothing against Mr. Merten, but I hope an established East Dallasite will run, not someone who moves into our neighborhood for political convenience or gain. Mayor Rawlings has done some great things for the City and overall made us a better city. He is a brilliant man and maybe one of the best living orators. He has big vision and can handle the helm of the ship. Unfortunately, I have been embattled with the City for three years over PARK issues such as the Winfrey Point issue, the Boy Scout Hill issue, the blue death issue, hiring a horse-starver to run the Citys horse park issue, the arson at the horse park conveniently wiping out rare plant species and animal habitats on the eve of construction, the proposed park land drilling issues, and I am tired. On the other hand, Im an empty nester with much more time on my hands and Ill get a second wind. Even if we have an established East Dallasite who will run, the very best we can do is get the candidates campaign promises on video and try to hold them to their promises. Please get the word out. Thank you, Carol Bell-Walton dallasnews/news/metro/20140819-2-top-rawlings-aides-consider-council-campaigns.ece
