"Dear Editor: Four years ago, I went to a neighborhood event to meet a candidate running for the District 6 City Board of Education, Marvin Lucas. With a child starting kindergarten at our neighborhood school, I wanted to meet this candidate. Impressions from that encounter fostered my support for Mr. Lucas, who was optimistic, interested, engaging and very informed about concerns that my husband and I expressed. Four years later, I am an even more avid supporter of Mr. Lucas, who has proved to be a true advocate for all children in the Tuscaloosa City schools. Marvin firmly believes in the importance of parental involvement in schools and has been active in local, city, state and national PTA for the past 15 years. Additional accomplishments that Mr. Lucas has promoted include the development of the world-class Tuscaloosa Center for Technology Academy, partnerships with Mercedes-Benz and the fire college for TCTA, implementation of the STEAM program at University Place and expanding Alberta to a K-8 school with an emphasis on performing arts. What impresses me most about Mr. Lucas is his level of involvement and dedication in the schools and the community. He participates in countless school events around the city and doesn’t need to figure out what is going on in our schools. He knows and is continuously exploring ideas and initiatives to further improvement. As a parent who is very pleased with the quality education my child is receiving in the Tuscaloosa City Schools, I encourage continued support for Marvin Lucas."- Joan KIng, Tuscaloosa
