Dear Everyone I Know At Sydney University: I know that SRC elections are awful. I know that having campaigners constantly in your face is the worst. I hate it, and I used to hate it even more, but can I please implore you to vote. Its important. Ever since editing Honi, I realised that the SRC is an institution with the ability to actually make a tangible difference in students life, especially disadvantaged ones, but, sadly, it has become moribund under successive Presidents who have treated their $30,000 position as a salaried excuse to nap in the couch in their offices and ensure that their conveniently unnamed major political party (rhymes with neighbour has none of the positive connotations) isnt ever shown in a bad light in the student paper. Im not going to condescend to you and tell you who to vote for, but I will say that, even though I hate elections, I am going to be out campaigning today for Grassroots for Kyol because, even though I wont be at uni next year, I think it would be nice to elect someone who will revitalise the SRC as opposed to another year for the perpetual Bill I Stand For Nothing Shortens of student politics.
