Dear FB Friends and Family – My younger son Jasper and I - TopicsExpress

Dear FB Friends and Family – My younger son Jasper and I returned home last night from our two week adventure to New Mexico. We travelled with six other boys and three other Dads making a total crew of eleven. Our mission was a 67-mile hike through rugged mountain wilderness. We were at the Philmont Ranch, the Scouts’ most rigorous high adventure course in the U.S. located in the Sangre de Cristo range of the Rocky Mountains in northwest New Mexico -- covering 137,000 acres and 214 square miles. Jasper and I were inspired to go after my older son Josh Davidoff went on a similar trek four years ago. The pinnacle of the trip for me was our climb to the peak of Mount Baldy, which at 12,441 feet high is the tallest point in New Mexico. The last twenty minutes of the climb is pretty much straight up. Crawling on hands and knees, grasping for the next boulder to hang on to, I have not been that scared in a long time. Finally reaching the very top, I stood up and just began to sob. I was overwhelmed with the accomplishment of the climb, partial views of four states (NM, CO, OK and TX) and more importantly a clearer vision for me, my family and my business. I promised myself that Mount Baldy would be a transformative experience. In short, the trip one of the most rigorous physical activities I have ever done. We faced our fears and despair, felt exhilarated and overcame real life challenges. We laughed a lot. We shared intimately, told a lot of stories and jokes and worked well as a team. I came away with new friendships with the other Dads and a shared experience with Jasper which I expect we will remember forever. Enjoy the photos. Hike on! --John
