Dear Friend, Our Swadhyay Camp III will be held on Saturday and Sunday, the 14th and 15th February 2015. We have 30 members who have so far enrolled for event. Dr Sampadananda Mishra‘s list of ten suggested books has been circulated by us. Of these, two books_Isha Upanishad and The Lights on the Upanishads were recommended for self study by all participants. In our interaction with prospective participants, it is seen that some of us have not yet started studying these two books. In order to walk together and facilitate our understanding, we are pleased to take up Sri Kapali Sastry’s “The Lights on the Upanishads” for this purpose. The uniqueness of this book is that it deals with the practice of spiritual truth. In order to understand the key terms like atman or prana we will endeavour to draw your attention to the relevant portions of the book so that we can derive the optimum spiritual gain. Sri Kapali Sastry’s writes_It follows that the next step is to realise these truths by every individual. This process of realization is termed as sadhana. In the course of six discourses Sri Kapali Sastry introduces us to six vidyas – the bhuma, the prana, the Shandilya, the Vaishvanara, the Nachiketa and Madhu- occurring in three of the main Upanishads- the Chhandoya, Katha, and Brhadarnayaka and unlocks the symbolism of Upanishadic “ vidyas” and tells us that Upanishads besides being philosophical discourse are fundamentally manuals of sadhana. Some of us may not have knowledge of Sanskrit and Upanishadic thought of our great ancient seers but that should not prevent us from studying this book. We, on our part will start giving leads to help you focus on certain passages to widen and expand consciousness. Please await our next mail on this subject. With best wishes, Krishan Sethi/Samarjit
