Dear Friends, I am writing to you about the - TopicsExpress

Dear Friends, I am writing to you about the soon-to-be-desperate life situation of a good friend of mine. His name is STEVEN KAUFFMAN. I have known Steve for over 25 years. His loyalty and generosity to friends is well known. Steve is a recognized poet in the Bay Area around San Francisco. He has published two books of poems. He worked successfully in Hollywood as the post-production producer on the award winning documentary film From Hollywood to Hanoi. This was the first film after the US war with Vietnam which was allowed to be shot in North Vietnam. Before moving to the West Coast in 1985 he was the manager of the popular Philadelphia-area recording artists, The Cousins. Steve has accomplished a lot in his life, despite being severely ill from ulcerative colitis, clinical depression and migraines. In addition he suffered painful and debilitating back injuries when cars he was driving were twice rear-ended, once by a teen-age driver who fell asleep at the wheel. He is facing a fifth back surgery. Steve now lives in a cozy mobile home he bought in a decent, small-town-like mobile home park in Concord, California. His current income is from both Social Security Disability and disability insurance from the years he worked as a supervisor for the San Mateo County Transit Authority. The problem will arise in January 2014 when he will lose his San Mateo County disability insurance, amounting to more than 50% of his income. At that point in time he will not be able to afford the ground rent for his mobile home and he will be homeless. I am writing to ask if you could pledge $10 a month for one year to support Steve while he recovers from the latest back surgery and finds a source of income he can manage. I have already pledged my support. If 149 of you will join this effort for one year he will be able to pull through. Please DO NOT send any money or pledges to me. Send them directly to Steve Kauffman, 125 Leanne Lane, Concord, California 94518. There are only six months left until Steve will be out of sufficient funds. If you can, please send your checks or pledges now. When we reach 150 pledges, I will email each of you to let you know. Please forward this request to anyone you think would help. Sincerely, Henri Montandon
