Dear Friends, STEP organized a Talk-cum-slide show on High Altitude and Mountain sickness at Vardhaman Mahavir Medical College, Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi on 18th October, 2014. Dr. Ajay Kumar Gupta, Associate Professor (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) gave a very informative lecture on various mountain sickness, its prevention and cure through well prepared slides and interesting and spell-bounding oratory. He informed about High Altitude Sickness (Pulmonary Edima and Cerebral Edima, Hypothermia etc.), Motion Sickness, Injuries etc. He suggested preventions, symptoms and medication for these. He emphasized upon the need for ACCLIMATIZATION for trekkers and mountaineers to prevent sickness. His talk was very educative and enlightened the audience most of them were trekkers. There was another distinguished guest on this occasion. Shri Prem Kumar Singh (originally from Bihar and presently staying at Gurgaon) scaled worlds highest peak Mt. Everest (8848 metres) in May, 2014. His aim is to complete the Grand Slam of Climbers i.e. climbing highest peaks of all the continents and reaching South and North Pole. So far, he has reached the highest peaks of Asia, Europe, North and South America. He is very young, still only 24. He also shared his experiences of mountaineering. He specially emphasized upon preparedness of trekkers and mountaineers in the face of any eventuality. He also shared his experiences and suggested his ways of preventing mountain sickness and injuries. In the end, STEPs senior office bearers honoured Dr. Ajay Kumar Gupta and Shri Prem Kumar Singh with STEPs Cap, T-Shirt and the plants of Shyam Tulsi. STEP thanks Dr. Ajay Kumar Gupta and Shri Prem Kumar Singh for sparing their invaluable time to interact with the trekkers.
