Dear Friends, Some of you will remember where I spent my Birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas & New Years last year.... 4 1/2 months in a Hospital & Nursing Home. During Christmas I was actully under a full quarantene as a strain of flu ran rampant and ended the lives of 19 elderly patients at the recovery facility where I was. This was just months after my fathers death and having to move to a new home over the summer from the Mountains of Maggie Valley NC to Rabun Gap GA. BOTTOM LINE... 2012 was a year I have tried hard to put behind me. 2013 has been a far happier year.....until now. Over the weekend my bad foot (whats left of it) has become very infected with a MRSA resistant strain of infection I am told there is a good chance I could loose my foot. Ironic that just a few months ago I finally achieved total glucose sugar control with readings consistently in the 70s - 100s. Today my Doctor ordered me to a Level 1 trauma tertiary care hospital. Since I live by myself I decided to returned home for a few hours, packed up everything important and loaded my dog into the car for a very careful drive to Griffin GA where I will go to the local ER and then be transferred to (hopefully) Emory University Hospital in Atlanta sometime on Tuesday. I will be starting square one with totally new Physicians but I wont be stranded hundreds of miles from family & friends like last year. This is going to be a long term stay, and perhaps the last time I am ever able to drive a car with my own foot. Even though I am Septic and have high levels of MRSA and White Blood cells I actually feel fine, in fact I can walk with zero pain right this minute. During my last surgery I was wide awake and talking to my Podiatric surgeon as he sawed into me and was taking bone out of my foot. I felt nothing even though I did not have even one Asprin for pain. Trust me, the photos of my foot are as bad as the ones on my profile from my initial surgery and I may post some later of where my medical condition is right now. Last year I missed the wedding of one of my grand nephews and it looks like I am going to miss the one for another of my grand nephews on Nov 22nd. While I am now a non deist Unitarian, I will appreicate any warm feelings you send my way. Fortunately I will have my laptop and apparently plenty of time on my hands. As soon as I know where I am going to end up in Atlanta, I will post it here. To everyone else..... Have a great Thanksgiving & Christmas!
