Dear Friends and Colleagues, Firstly may I apologise for the rather impersonal nature of this message. Eventbrite has many wonderful features - but of course nothing quite beats the quality of a personal exchange! Albeit that this is true I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to those of you who joined us for the launch of the Boathouse last Thursday. It was great to see so many people enjoyng the warm autumn evening by the river, the food and drink and the performances and exhibitions from our local artists and arts organisations. As I said in my speech, the event came to life purely because of the energy, passion and commitment of the over 100 volunteers and contributors who brought their own imaginations, ideas and realisations to making the event what it was. But it took you all as guests to create the whole and this you did by joining in the fun with us - thank you! The future of the Boathouse will be determined by curiosity, by exploring, uncovering and showing the enormous creative capital in Barking and Daganham and further afield, and to making a nurturing and provocative space for performance and participation in a wide range of artistic endeavours. I look forward to having conversations with you and others about how we might also assist you to create spaces for your events, rehearsals, training and retreat opportunities and more.
