Dear Harare Westerners Today marks exactly 365 days since you - TopicsExpress

Dear Harare Westerners Today marks exactly 365 days since you elected me into my 2nd term as your MP in the National Assembly, formerly House of Assembly. (Those who didnt cast their vote for me included as they equally elected me albeit adversely). The memories of the intense emotions and tension of that fateful day are as vivid as HD. At this hour I had entered Masaisai Primary School Polling Station B to observe the counting. I had just observed Haig Park School Polling Station close and was still battling with the logistics for feeding the dedicated women and men who volunteered to safeguard the democratic process as polling agents. My biggest source of anxiety was that I would be arrested for parallel voter tabulation before I could cast my vote for Morgan Tsvangirai for President, Lancelot Mudavanhu as Councillor for Ward 16, and myself as National Assembly Candidate. Cllr Mudavanhu had posed logistical challenges for Harare Central Police Law & Order section with his wheelchair when he was arrested and detained earlier in the day with his chief election agent Raphael Kamba and I was warned the police were rubbing their hands in anticipation of arresting me as I supplied the parallel voter tabulation forms. I was therefore relieved to manage to vote by Gods grace at dusk just about 6pm at the tent at the Sherwood Paraplegic Centre. I was relieved to meet Cllr Mudavanhu as he and his agent had been released with the help of ZLHR Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights Charles Kwaramba. It was a brutally cold long night even whose hardship of excruciating laborious counting that only ended at 7am did not prepare me for the utter shock that our MDC T candidates thunderous victory including Cllr Charity Bangos of Ward 41 was not replicated in all or most constituencies. Morgan Tsvangirai proved that he is more popular than me in my constituency! I do not take your support for granted. I pledged to serve you, to the best of my ability in legislating, oversight over government business and generally representing you in the National Assembly. It has not been an easy 365 days, especially without any institutional and administrative support from Parliamentof Zimbabwe. But the hope of making a difference, no matter how small, and your support and feedback keep me going. My 1st anniversary in office is on 27 August shortly after which I will review the year as a way of accounting to you for how I have spent my year in your name. I thank you. It is an honour to serve you. Your MP Jessie Fungayi Majome
