Dear Huda Al Husseini, and your fellows: You have to know that we - TopicsExpress

Dear Huda Al Husseini, and your fellows: You have to know that we Ethiopians are not indolent as before Egypt has been using the Nile River unilaterally (and partially bi-laterally with Sudan) for more than 3000 years, not because it is the unilateral right of Egypt over the Nile but it was because of Ethiopia’s fondness. It was the economical wreckness and political instability that limits Ethiopia from getting benefits from the Blue Nile. This condition gave Egypt the break to exploit the waters of Nile River in the way it wants to use, irrespective of the interest of the upper riparian countries. And Egypt has been considered the unilateral utilization of the river as her absolute right, which is unacceptable. But now by any development parameters Ethiopia is thousand times better than ever before. Therefore, as equivalent as its counterpart Egypt, Ethiopia has the right to use the waters of the Blue Nile for various purposes. Utilization of a common resource (common river) by a single country is not fair. Mind that, Egypt has been done its best to destroy and weaken Ethiopia. First, Egypt tried to directly control the source of the Nile River (Blue Nile), but this plan was 100% failed. Second, Egypt tried its best to destabilize Ethiopia indirectly by supporting opposition and terrorist groups. But Ethiopia has been solving such problems through strengthening internal political stability and, thanks to the late PM Meles Zenawi, through an outstanding strategic diplomatic relations with neighboring and powerful countries. Ethiopia never and never tried to destabilize Egypt throughout history, history reveals. Third, Egypt has been devoting its vigor, as best as she can, in blocking aids and loans possibly to pour to Ethiopia from the international institutions, WB and IMF, and other rich countries. Why? But you know what Ethiopia never tried to do this. Here, we can say Egyptian intension is impoverishing the Ethiopian people. Now let me raise some questions: do you believe that Ethiopia shall seat and simply see the flow of the Blue Nile waters while Egypt benefits from it? Do you think that a common resource that only benefits only one-side (one country) is fair? What solutions can we propose to benefit the owners of a common resource? Actually, both Ethiopia and Egypt have the right to use the Nile River in a fair and equitable manner, since it is their common resource. As you know well, Ethiopia is not claiming unilateral benefit from the Nile River, but Egypt does. Ethiopia is not constructing the Renaissance Dam without consulting Egypt and Sudan, but Egypt does construct its Dams without asking permission from Ethiopia. You see, Ethiopia’s intension is not thirsting Egyptians but fighting poverty. Ethiopia’s effort is not blocking the water flow of the Blue Nile and bringing a significant harm on Egyptian fellows. To make sure this we are consulting you, but you don’t want to understand the reality. Ethiopia believes on fair and equitable utilization of the Nile River. That is why Ethiopia convinces many of the Nile riparian countries to sign the Entebbe Accord. Be honest, which document talk about fair and equitable utilization, the 1959 or the Entebbe Accord? So, how on earth the Egyptians work day and night against the interest of the Ethiopian people, the people who live in the land where the source of Nile is found. How acceptable it is to deny the interest of Ethiopia (the country which believes on fair and equitable utilization), while respecting the interest of Egypt (a country which doesn’t believe on fair and equitable utilization of the waters of the Nile River). Lastly and boldly, war/force is the very worst option Egypt can choose! aawsat.net/2014/03/article55330365#comment-88394
