Dear METU Students, From the beginning of 2014-2015 Academic Year we want start a BUDDY program for our newcomer international students with the help of your active and volunteer participation. We are planning to support the orientation process of new students joining ODTÜ community as well as to create an international social and cultural atmosphere for you in which you might have new experiences. What is the BUDDY program? In a nutshell, the BUDDY program helps to ease the possible culture shocks and adaptation difficulties stemming from changing the country, which you might have already experienced too. Especially in the campus of your new University there are a lot to discover. For instance, you should know as soon as possible where to eat, where and how to go somewhere, how to solve bureaucratic obstacles caused by language difference. Thanks to our voluntary mentors these obstacles will be overcome easily and orientation process will be shortened, and by this way there will be much longer time to enjoy the life in ODTÜ and Turkey. What are your responsibilities as a “Mentor/BUDDY” ? - make contact via email with new Buddy upon match; continue to correspond, answer queries, provide local/university information on an on-going basis - initiate a meeting with your Buddy upon arrival in Turkey - attending Orientation Program activities - take part in the METU International Student Association (MISA) and other social events with Buddy - support your buddy for some difficulties such as getting a mobile phone line, applying for residence permit at National Police, and etc. If you want to join this program, please fill the attached form and reply this mail or send it to [email protected] - [email protected] P.S.
