Dear Madam / Sir, On behalf of the British Council and the Human Rights Human Dignity International Film Festival (HRHDIFF), it is my pleasure to invite you to a screening of the film Red Wedding at 6pm on Friday 12th July at the British Council, 78 Kanna Road, Yangon. Red Wedding tells the story of a survivor who pits her humanity against an ideology and a system designed to annihilate people like her. Between 1975 and 1979 at least 250,000 Cambodian women were forced into marriages by the Khmer Rouge. Sochan was one of them. At the age of 16, she was forced to marry a soldier who raped her. After 30 years of silence, Sochan has decided to bring her case to the international tribunal set up to try former Khmer Rouge leaders. The film has won several prizes at international festivals, and featured prominently at the HRHDIFF where it was honoured with a Special Jury Mention. At 58 mins long, it will be shown with both English and Burmese subtitles. In addition to the screening, HRHDIFF director Min Htin Ko Ko Gyi and international consultant Igor Blazevic will talk about this year’s festival and its plans for the future. The success of the first edition of the HRHDIFF was beyond anybody’s expectations. More than 5,000 people came to see human rights films and to discuss after the screenings at the Nay Pyi Daw and Junction Square cinemas. After such a successful launch it is planned to develop HRHDIFF into a festival which contributes to the democratization of Myanmar, supports local filmmakers and at the same time has broader relevance for the whole ASEAN region. We hope that you will join us to see this beautiful film and learn about our vision for the future. R.S.V.P. to [email protected] to confirm a place at the event. Best regards,
