Dear Mary Ann Pope, I have had to contact your office today to get information regarding my children transportation to school this year. I have not receive any letters from the school board through the mail. I am extremely concern when told that my other two children do not qualify for transportation since we are approximately 1.35km away from the school and we need to be 1.6 km away to be considered eligible. I was unaware of this situation in the past due to the fact that I have a son with disabilities who was been transported to the same school the last couple of years. I am extremely concern for the safety of my 4 yrs old son and my 11 yrs old daughter having to walk to school from our home! I find the walk dangerous since my children would have to cross Young st to continue down Little avenue. I know of 3 other families, 1 on my street and 2 around the bend on Merrett drive that also have JK children attending Assikinak this year! We are all upset and in disbelief that the school bus transportation consortium find that 1.35 km is considered walking distance from the school. I would greatly appreciate it if we could use my disabled child school bus transportation to accommodate and board all the other children (JK) & siblings! I will be encouraging the other families to make their concerns known to you weather it be in writing or by phone (witch by the way was denied to me!) I find this matter to be pressing and concerning and school begins in 4 days! I will eagerly be awaiting your reply and I am going to safely assume that the mothers will be too! Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter!
