Dear Members of the MSU, First, let it be clear that Congress - TopicsExpress

Dear Members of the MSU, First, let it be clear that Congress does not suppress freedom of speech. In fact, we strive to uphold it! We who are your representatives and fight for your voice to be heard inside and out of the college-we who hold regular surveys and General Assemblies to gain your input. We who fought against Bill 14, against the Charter of Values- we who fought against all forms of tyranny that sought to suppress your voice. We are Congress and we are here for you Marianopolis so that we all have the opportunity to voice our opinions. As such, I am disappointed that an administrator would seek to break this sacred trust that we hold so dear with the students and I have ensured that I along with members of the college administration are the sole administrators of the page(so if it happens again you know who to blame). Moreover, in this harsh and ever changing game that we can life let it be clear that tensions are bound to arise, and yet as citizens of Marianopolis College it is our duty to remain calm and sensible during said conflicts. As your President I call on each and everyone of you take my words unto consideration in order to gain an informed opinion on what has arisen. As you all know a Review Board has been struck- I had hoped to not get involved but I have been forced to by recent events in order to uphold the integrity of the Union. This Review Board is not investigating an issue “so absurd that it’s barely even worth mentioning”, as some of the parties potentially affected would claim. In fact, the issue at hand is that of ELECTION FRAUD. The issue at hand is that potentially the Electoral Committee swayed the vote in favor of the current President-elect and Vice-President-elect by failing to uphold vote deductions explicitly mentioned in the Constitution and in fact changing them so as to benefit these individuals. Now some of you might claim that these deductions mentioned in the constitution are silly. However, it is our duty as Congress and as citizens of Marianopolis to uphold our constitution since it is the very embodiment of our democratic principles and freedom of expression. Thus, when we are approached by students who have a grievance it is our responsibility to create a Review Board to address the issue, which is what was done here. That being said, should the general populace wish to change the constitution and the penalties mentioned, then I invite you to take part in our Annual General Meeting at the end of the year where we vote on amendments, in a democratic process that respects our constitution. On that note, I thank you all for being involved in the democratic process and encourage you to continue to voice your opinions, regardless of whether or not they critique Congress-remember we are here for you-it is our mandate and our passion. Should you have questions or concerns regarding the Review Board please direct them at the only qualified individual who has all the facts and jurisdiction to answer-Louis Buckett-the Chair of the review Board. Thank you. Best regards, Mackenzie Anderson, MSU President
