Dear Opera talk community. This is a serious topic. I have recently been teaching regularly and take this role very seriously. During my sessions with my students, I make sure that they are in a good space emotionally and that I dont do anything to hinder this. I see a student-teacher relationship as one of fiduciary, that is confidence and trust. I feel it is my task to have a student walk away from a lesson, inspired, positive, their trust in me completely in tact. This is VITAL to the proper function of their vocal instrument. However, there are voice teachers out there who seem to abuse their fiduciary obligations. I feel it is time to start talking openly about some of the issues revolving around this.
