Dear Parents, A letter was sent by mail to your children last - TopicsExpress

Dear Parents, A letter was sent by mail to your children last week welcoming them to the new school year. I thought it would be a good idea to update you on some logistics as well. Bus Routes: All students should report to school by 7:55 on Wednesday, August 28th. Bus Routes will be posted on the district website. Assignment Notebooks: We will also have assignment notebooks for sale in the main lobby during morning homeroom sessions on the first day of school. You can also drop by to purchase an assignment notebook in advance. We expect delivery of the assignment notebooks on Tuesday, August 20th. First 2 Days of School: Our First 2 Day program brings our learning community together. As part of the program, students were asked to read a summer reading book. If you are unsure which book was assigned to your child, please contact the school office or email Mrs. Morris at: [email protected] Special lunches for August 28th and August 29th: Our Food Services Director and our Cafeteria Manager are planning a catered lunch on each day. We appreciate all the effort it took to make this happen! The lunch for Wednesday, August 28th pizza will be served and for Thursday, August 29th the lunch will be a boxed lunch. The lunch choices for Thursday will be turkey, ham and cheese, PB and J sandwich with veggie, fruit, and milk. Lunch counts need to be taken each morning. So please review this with your child in advance. The lunch will cost $2.75 each day (small bills are preferred). Participating in either of these lunches is optional and students are invited to bring their own lunch from home if they prefer. Parent Volunteers: Parent volunteers are needed to help serve lunch on Wednesday and Thursday. The commitment will be from 11:45 to 12:45 on Wednesday and Thursday. Please email Marnie Hoolahan, our new SOS Chair, to sign up for this volunteer opportunity --- marnie.hoolahan@gmail. You can also connect with Marnie about the other volunteer opportunities that are available. Documents to be returned: Students will be coming home with a series of documents to be filled out or signed. Please check your child’s backpack each night next week to find these documents. To help you stay organized, here is a list of the documents: - Acceptable Use Policy (back page of planner- required signatures) - Code of Conduct (back page of planner- required signatures) - Bioverification Sheet (separate sheet with emergency information and permissions for internet and media publicity- required signatures) - Free and Reduced Lunch Form (optional) - Medical Emergency Form (must be returned) - Activity Fee ($25 check to Trottier Middle School or online payments available) - Pre-paid Lunch Information (optional) - If you need health insurance for your child, the district is offering coverage. Details are on the district’s website: nsboro.k12.ma.us/ Supply Lists: 2013-2014 Supply List have been posted on the Trottier website. Student schedules: Students will be receiving their schedule on the first day of school during the first homeroom session. If you have questions about the schedule, please contact your student’s guidance counselor. Creating schedules for middle school students is a huge puzzle. Anytime a change is requested, it will usually mean numerous adjustments. We will not change a student’s teacher or class assignment unless our staff made a mistake during the placement process. If you have a concern about your student’s schedule, you have a few options: 1.) Contact the teacher and share your concern. 2.) Contact your student’s guidance counselor to discuss. 3.) Contact myself or Mr. Hreschuk about the concern, we will do our best to advise you about appropriate steps to take. Academic Calendar: We have changed the academic calendar for the 2013-2014 school year. Instead of trimesters, we will follow quarters. The new academic calendar has been posted on our website under the “ACADEMIC” tab. School Lunch Program: For the 2013-2014 school year, the regular school lunch will be $2.75 and the deli bar will be $3.00. I am delighted that the menu will continue to be improved giving our students more options, including, salad and deli bar options throughout the week. I am excited for the new menu and I am hopeful for a rise in participation for our school lunch program. Virtual Backpack: Continuing for its third year, we will be putting together a biweekly Virtual Backpack that is packed with community news and flyers. They will be archived on our website as well. If you don’t have access to a computer, please let the office know we will be happy to send a hard copy of the Virtual Backpack home for you. Daily Announcements: The Trottier website allows us to post the daily announcements that are read to students during homeroom. The daily announcements will be posted each morning by 10 am. Drop off/Pick up: All students should be in the building by 7:55 AM. We also encourage you to let your son/daughter take the bus to and from school. This allows our parking lot to remain safe during drop-off and pick-up times. There are 3 requests we have: 1. Find a pre-determined location for you to be parked. This allows students to quickly find you at dismissal. 2. Please use the parking spots available. 3. If you plan to use the track-side of the building, you must use parking spaces. You are not allowed to form a line. A single line of traffic will be permitted in the front of the building. Please do not start a second line and please do stop in the front of the building. Please start the line at the Neary end of the front parking lot. We hope the drop-off and pick-up will be safe and smooth this year. By following these guidelines, we hope to achieve our goals. Curriculum Night: Tuesday, September 10th is our annual Curriculum Night. The program will include a presentation from Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School and the opportunity to follow your son/daughter’s Monday schedule. There will also be an opportunity, built into the schedule, to visit teachers that your child doesn’t have on Mondays. I will be sending a detailed schedule at a later time. Parking for Curriculum Night: We have more students and parents than we have ever had before and parking is tight. I strongly encourage parents to carpool with neighbors or park at Neary. The schedule is the same for all grades and won’t be staggered as it was in the past. We hope you enjoy the new format and we welcome any suggestions. Believe me, I could continue about all the things that are happening and the plans for the upcoming school year, but I will stop there for now --- Please email or call if you have any questions. I want to ensure that everyone gets these communications. Please ask a neighbor if they received this email and let the office know of any conflicts… Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year!
