Dear Parents/Carers, It has been a very busy week, full of exciting activities and learning. On Thursday the school came alive with wonderful characters from books to celebrate World Book Day. The children thoroughly enjoyed their day dressed as a book character. Thank you to you all for your co-operation in making sure the day was a success. On Tuesday, year 5 made plasticine characters come to life when they created short animation films during an animation workshop. The leader of the workshop was very impressed with their work and so was I when I visited at the end of the session! If you would like to view year 5’s work, the animations can be found on You Tube (titled: Winter Gardens Primary – Year 5 animations March 2014 by Animation Nation 78). Foundation pupils had a lovely, sunny walk to Grouts the Bakers on Wednesday to buy a Baby Bear biscuit. The staff commented on how well-mannered the children were when paying for and receiving their biscuit. Many thanks to Grouts for being so friendly and welcoming. Miss Fretwell and I have been closely monitoring attendance this week. The children understand the importance of good attendance at school and on Tuesday 18th March, two pupils who have achieved 100% attendance this week will attend an attendance celebration at Cornelius Vermuyden. I hope you enjoy the lovely Spring weather that is forecast for this weekend. Yours Sincerely, Teresa Thompson NOTICES FACEBOOK I would like to remind all parents that Facebook is not the correct place to air any complaints regarding the school. All complaints are taken seriously by the school and the correct procedure should be followed: a meeting with the classteacher in the first instance, then a meeting with the phase leader (Mr Wholey or Mrs Manning). If further discussion is needed, an appointment with the Acting Headteacher should be made. The complaints policy is on the school website. CLUBS After school clubs are run by school staff in their own time. Therefore, can you please make sure you arrive promptly to collect your child on time (see times opposite). VERRUCA If your child has a verruca, please ensure they keep their foot covered during the school day, especially during PE and swimming. Please let the class teacher know in writing, so that socks and plimsolls can be worn for PE and a swimming sock for swimming (Y5 only). FRIENDS OF WINTER GARDENS FoWG will be hosting a quiz night on Saturday 8th March in Lake View Hall, tickets cost £4 in advance or £5 on the door. Maximum of 8 per team. PHASE 1 READING AWARD Congratulations to 1T for achieving the Reading Award this week. Robbie the Reading Bear is looking forward to spending time in your class for the very first time. Please note that to achieve this award your child needs to be listened to at least 3 times per week. The reading diary also needs to be signed. SPORTS RELIEF On Friday 14th March, we will be taking part in Sports Relief. For a small donation, we ask that your child comes to school in sportswear. There will be a range of sports activities happening during the day to support this fundraising event.
