Dear Parents In This Community, Please Respond. I Have No Clue: Clinic Caller: I would like to cancel my initial intake. I am not spending 8 hours filling out your ridiculous intake forms. Im taking my business elsewhere. (FYI: It takes an hour at most) Early Life: Thats cool. We do this so that parents actually CAN be the experts of their own children. The reason we ask about everything and their dog, is the fact that unlike anyone else on the planet, YOU as the parent know more about your child than anyone else. One would think that parents would like to share that info with their childs shrink. So I honestly have to ask you all as parents in this community, have we been desensitized by public schools who have exercised increasing authority over our children, to basically do almost whatever they want, when they want, with your kids? As long as you are quick? I pose the same question regarding your kids pediatrician, who may prescribe psychotropic medication after a 30 minute visit, and relying on the results of just a ADHD Parental Checklist? Do you as my Utah neighbors place a premium on speed when such pertains to your children and their medical/mental health care? I ask not in judgement, but purely to know the possible realities we are dealing with as both clinicians, and business owners. I worry about advising policy in the clinic because I just may be too old school for this next generation of parents....AND Doctors. We fall short on so many levels, but we started from day one , emulating the model of the Cordon Blue, as opposed to Mc Donalds. Not for economic reasons, but for clinical reasons that may be in the best interest of your kid. Just how important to you as parents is efficiency and speed, as opposed to more time consuming & expensive, but detailed focus on your childs issues? Thoughts? Counsel? Guidance?
