Dear Parents and Guardians, Peace Month will begin on Tuesday - TopicsExpress

Dear Parents and Guardians, Peace Month will begin on Tuesday January 21st, 2014 and end Friday, February 14, 2014. The expectation is that all students will participate as this is a school wide effort. Please take a look at the previous post earlier this month about the ideas your child may participate in. Aside from individual classroom activities, we are also incorporating the following school wide activities and are encouraging staff members and students to participate. School “Peace” Spirit To show school spirit during Peace Month, we are encouraging staff members and students to wear a specific “color” each Friday during Peace Month. Each color signifies a Peace theme. Friday, January 24th, 2014: Green for Harmony Friday, January 31st, 2014: Blue for Trust Friday, February 7th, 2014: Orange for Happiness Friday, February 14th, 2014: Red for Love Acts of Kindness Buttons We will also be ordering Acts of Kindness Buttons. The purpose of this activity is to encourage and reward those students that are seen doing an Act of Kindness. Encourage your child to wear their buttons throughout the Month to encourage other students to earn them as well by doing an Act of Kindness. At the end of Peace Month, a student from each grade level with the most Peace Buttons will be awarded a Citizenship Award at our Second Award Ceremony at the end of February. My Wish for Peace Poem Contest The students in grades 3-5 will participate in “My Wish for Peace is…” poem contest. Ms. Cruz has spoken to all 3rd-5th grade classes explaining the details of this contest and gave those students interested the writing prompt sheet. There will be 3 winners per grade level (3-5th grade). The winners’ incentives include, reading their poems during morning announcements throughout Peace Month, posting of their poems on the February bulletin board and a pizza party. If you have any questions, comments, or concerns please feel free to speak to Ms. Cruz the school guidance counselor, thank you for your cooperation & participation! Mrs. Moss-Hasan, Principal
