Dear Parents and Guardians of Year 11 students Study Coach - TopicsExpress

Dear Parents and Guardians of Year 11 students Study Coach Program Your child is currently engaged in Year 11 studies and in all probability, will be well aware of the increased level of expectation associated with Senior Schooling. Not only will the workload have increased but also there will be an increased focus on results. Students in the Senior School have had discussions on assembly regarding the importance of attaining the Queensland Certificate of Education. Students who intend to gain entry to university have also had the importance of gaining a quality Overall Position (OP) reinforced in these discussions. In order to ensure that your child has the best opportunity to achieve their goals, it is important that we as a school provide every opportunity to track and monitor academic progress. One of the approaches we have established this year is a Study Coach Process. The Study Coach Process will have an experienced staff member meet with your child at various times throughout the year. These meetings at key times, will be focused around • Attainment of QCE (ensuring that 20 credits are likely to be gained) • Discussion of subject appropriateness and options (Especially if your child is failing a subject) • Study plans and approaches • Tracking of external courses ( QCE Credits) • Work balance – Study/ Work/ Sport/ Social commitments • Reinforcement of positive approaches Our first meeting date is planned for Tuesday 20th of May. On this day all Year 11 students will attend Lessons 1- 3. After Morning Tea, a compulsory assembly will be held for all Year 11 students. The overall Study Coach Process will be explained to students in this forum. After this assembly, interviews with students will commence in the library. Those students who would like to go home and return later for their interview slot are welcome to do so. However, students are not allowed to go to the shop. They are expected to use their time wisely. Upon their return to school they will be required to wear school uniform. Students who are unable to leave due to travel restrictions are welcome to remain at school and complete work in the hall until the time of their interview. There will be teachers supervising this study. It is vital though that all students attend their interviews. Parents are welcome to attend and are strongly encouraged to do so. Interview times for each student will be provided on Friday 16th May in Home Group rolls. A couple of teachers who have willingly agreed to engage as study coaches will be unable to attend the Tuesday session. These teachers will provide alternate times to their individual students. I would like to thank you in anticipation of your support of this program. If you require further information on this exciting and proactive program, aimed at maximising your child’s life opportunities, please contact Craig Martin. (Deputy Principal Yr. 10/11)
