Dear Rahul Gandhi, If you think Jains deserve minority status to preserve their cultural heritage or religious traditions, I disagree with you. If you think Jains deserve minority status to protect their religion from extinction, I disagree with you. If you think Jains are going to file cases against the majority group for rioting, under the proposed super-ridiculous Communal Violence Bill, I completely, wholeheartedly, unequivocally disagree with you. If you think Jain institutions need Central Govt money for launching instituions for preserving their way of life, I again disagree with you. If you think that Jains will vote for you because of this idiocy heaped upon the nation, as a pre-poll gimmick, I disagree with you. Jains have a rich and long history of trade, commerce and education. We are the most educated religious group of India with close to 94% of Jains being educated. We are also the proponents of non-violence (Ahimsa Parmo Dharma), religious tolerance, communal harmony and a long and rich tradition of charity, philanthropy and giving. Sure, we have our problems. Like most other religions, we are unnecessarily divided into sects like Digambers, Shwetambers, Sthanakwasi, Khadtargach, Moortipujak etc. There is some dirty politics (internal) in managing our religion and religious sites, heritage. This is primarily due to the fact that there is a lot of money at stake. Our saints are becoming materialistic and political and people like me are in general disillusioned with our organised religious practices. However, giving us minority status is more of a gaali than some protection that you may imagine it to be. Spare us the drama. There are already many nautankibaaz in Delhi!
