Dear Seaside Athletes, I am very excited about the New Year and the new changes that are in store for 2015. We’ve been working very hard for the past few months coming up with positive changes to the program and new challenges for you, the athlete. The following is a quick breakdown of the major themes and program changes. Theme #1: “GET OUT OF THE BOX and CELEBRATE YOUR FITNESS” – With the cold weather here it’s easy to feel caged up and demotivated. We challenge everyone to get outside where you belong, enjoy the air, and challenge yourself. Feel like a kid again! a. OUTDOORS WOD: Every Saturday we will be offering an Off Site WOD where you will be challenged by both the workout and the elements. Locations and link up times will be posted in the box. Potential Workouts could include Track Workouts, Trail Runs, Snowshoeing, Sled Pulling, etc. The Outdoors WOD will start on 17 January. b. SEASIDE FIELDTRIP: One Roulette of every month will be held at an off site location. Locations could include a basketball court, climbing gym, shooting range, a local Pond (Hockey), Sled Hill, etc. Locations and Link up times will be posted in the Box. The goal here is to celebrate your fitness by learning new skills, participating in sports and games. Our first field trip will be held at Carabineers in New Bedford on 30 January. Theme #2: “CONSTANT PURSUIT of EXCELLENCE” - Our goal at Seaside is to have consistent improvement in our athletes. We want our members to shatter old PR’s and learn new skills in the box. The following programs will help you achieve these goals. a. SEASIDE BARBELL CLUB: Starting in February we will be offering a Barbell Club that will focus on improvement in your Olympic Weightlifting (Clean and Jerk and Snatch). There will be a dedicated coach for the platforms and the athletes will receive individual programs to improve technique, speed and strength. The program is already being tested on a few athletes and they’ve seen 20lb gains in their snatch and clean and jerk. b. SEASIDE COMPETITORS PROGRAM: Starting in Mid Spring the Competitors Program will be re-released and will be open to anyone who has the time and wants to improve their ability as a CrossFitter. The Program has just finished the design stage and will be tested out in the next few months and released to the Box in early to mid spring. c. ATHLETE / COACH CONFERENCE: Starting in February we will be offering one on one sit-downs with our coaches to go over goals and coming up with strategies to reach these goals. Time frames and sign ups will be released in February. Theme #3: “COMMUNITY” – Our Community is one of the strongest assets at Seaside and we want to continue this into the foreseeable future. I love the work hard, play hard feel that we have in our box. I also love how each class has there own text string and that you guys motivate, challenge and hold each other accountable. Continue the good work. The following is what we have planned to add to our community for 2015. a. QUARTERLY THROW DOWNS: We will continue having quarterly throw downs similar to the Christmas Throw down. Nothing brings a team together like competition and meeting athletes from outside your normal class time will only strengthen our community. b. PROM: During Early Summer we will be having a High School Prom like event with your typical music, dancing, dinning and drinking. We will probably reach out to our members for a Prom Committee for help with the theme. c. GIVING BACK: We will continue our outreach to local charities and will schedule events to help those in need. The “Bed for every Child” was a great event and with the help from other small business owners in the box, the event went really well. I know 2015 is going to be a great year and we are excited about spending it with such a great group of fit people. Happy New Year Matt Christopher Seaside CrossFit
