Dear Second Years, Congratulations! You made it to clinics :) Now drop every bit of exhaustion, frustration, and depression you got from second year and follow these rules that I wish someone told me. What you need to survive clinics: - tape, thermometer, bandage scissors, and a watch on your body at all times (and some fanny pack or pouch to put them all in). - an alarm clock that is NOT your phone and is at least 4 feet from your bed ($19.99 at Walmart and worth every penny). - scrubs And thats it! To actually do well, enjoy clinics, and learn everything you can before you leave and practice medicine you need: - honesty - compassion - cooperation - responsibility - positive thinking - sleep - be ready to work hard ... basically the boy scout character traits. These traits came right out of the mouth of future employers in our business class elective too. You WILL feel dumb for about 99% of clinics. But dont forget, you are surrounded by the smartest of the smart in every department. Dont get frustrated, embrace it, and soak in everything you can. Figure out who you are, what you want, and what makes you happy in life. Become well-rounded again and full-fill all the areas of your life that you gave up to pass second year. If you cant figure it out, go to counseling, its worth it, and clinicians let you go, I did it! Good luck! If you have any questions or anything ask me!!
