Dear Sofia, For many years now, your mom and i have joked (partly in fear) about how fast the time goes by. That someday you would be two hands old. Welp. That day has arrived. 10 years ago today, i got a call from your grandma, telling me your mom was in labor and to come quick! i left work, got to the hospital and went into the delivery room. There was your mom.... trying hard to get in a comfortable position so you could easily come into the world. i watched as she panted and held her breath and bravely did what i just cant even fathom. ....I was so PROUD of your mom. She had (has) so much strength that she didnt even realize. You were beautiful. SO beautiful. Let me tell you something; YOU ARE LOVED. So, so loved. You bring such joy and amazement to my life. You are the most special kind of person there is. YOU ARE KIND. For me, this is most important. (ALWAYS continue to look at people with acceptance and openness, try on their shoes). YOU ARE FEARLESS, and i admire and envy that. Try as HARD as you can not to lose sight of possibilities. Listen to your gut, but dont let fear of anyones judgement cost you time or break your Spirit. NEVER. Listen to what you know, your Mom has tought you well. ...and when you dont know, ask someone you love and trust. i hope i will always be one of those people. YOU ARE GENEROUS. i am particularly always super proud of you when you consider what you have to what someone else needs, and i can recall countless times when you you have shared (or gave up) what you really wanted with someone who didnt have what you had. ...and did it without blinking. because thats what you do. YOU ARE STONG, in a way, you wont understand or recognize until many years later someone else says to you, these things because of a heartbreak, or a job-loss, or a mistake, or an apology youll have to make. But it will come to you. i can see it now. you will have everything necessary to deal with tough stuff ahead. YOU ARE WORTHY. Of love and acceptance and the right to be who you decide you want to become. Dont let anyone take that away from you. And if they try....tell me, and ill give them a few choice words (as your mom likes to put it). Dontt let anyone tell you that youre less than CAPABLE, because you are. Take risks. Know that you will fail sometimes, but that that is the worst that will happen. you will be batter and wiser for them. Make sure you always respect your Mom. Your relationship is changing, and its as HARDER for her, as it is for you. She will intuitively let go, but she wont want to. And youll be in a hurry to out from under her thumb. Thans just the way mother/daughter relationships work. But i can tell you this with most certainty. She will be THE MOST important person in forming who you are besides you. You will come to a place someday where that will be clear as crystal, and youll wish youd have known it earlier to give her more praise and thanks. Tho, you are a remarkably grateful human being and daughter. Tell her you love her whenever you can. Be accountable and always try to do what you say youll do. Be forgiving. Be loyal. Always try your best and dont worry about the rest of it. I cant even begin to express how you have changed my world. Even tho, i am not there to hug and kiss you today and tell you how proud i am, and even tho this letter is jumbled and may not make as much sense as i would like it to, i hope the message is clear. ...That I love you, more that you will EVER possibly ever know. You and your Mommy will always be my family. You can ALWAYS count on me to be a source of love and support. And Pride!!!! Happy 10th Birthday my love. Auntie Jackie.
