Dear Trinidad and Tobago: So child abuse seems to be the topic of discussion right now... Child abuse in the Trini Licks video... People basically choosing a side between saying the mummy was well within her right to hit the child for posting the pictures on facebook and others are saying that the child was subject to physical and verbal abuse and no one should be subject to that kind of torture. (Now while I disagree with the mother and I do believe that she went to far...) We cannot keep sharing the video all over Facebook people! No one, NO ONE can FULLY understand the thoughts, situations or stresses of ANYONE else!! So it is so easy to just stand on the side and shout blame at the mother or at the daughter... But how does that help the situation? All were really doing is saying I support child rights, I share the video, give myself a pat on the back and I go to sleep, happy that Im making a difference in the world???? Noo! Right now, the only thing we can do as HUMAN BEINGS to help this situation is to STOP SHARING THE VIDEO!!! By sharing it, we are worsening the situation for the entire family... How could you say that you are against child abuse and then you share the video of same abuse all over facebook!! So many apparent psychologists are appearing all over Facebook, diagnosing the situation and saying that the child is being subjected to psychological trauma in the video... But what about the EMBARASSMENT at seeing the video posted all over Facebook? Trust me, its bad enough what took place within the video, but that 12 year old girl, seeing herself in that state all over the internet will be more psychologically damaged by THAT more than any amout of licks... So please, find your humanity and remove the video from your wall... Save the FAMILY from the embarassment! Thats the best way to help the situation... We cant even begin to imagine the trauma the family must be going through... According to a St Francois Girls College teacher, the girl in the trini licks video is a victim of bullying, gets into fights regularly, and often misses school. According to the teacher, the girl has no house stability, and frequently moves in between her mothers and grandmothers homes. My point is: No one knows or can understand the stresses faced by anyone else. And its easy to lay blame on mother or daughter. How we can help: Stop sharing the video and stop laughing at it.
