Dear all, How to make it to Jail In Lagos!!! The Lagos State Government has passed a bill to repealand re-enact the road traffic law in the state. The bill is aimed at regulating vehicular movement and to imposesanctions on erring vehicle operators in the state.The provisions of the amended traffic law are as follows:· Driving against traffic, popularly known as one waydriving, now attracts a 3-year jail term, while a firstoffender gets one year term and the vehicle forfeited tothe state government.· Also, any bullion van driven in a direction prohibitedby law will be forfeited, while abandoned vehicle onhighway will be fined N50,000,or three years imprisonment, or both.· Riding a motorcycle against traffic and riding on thekerb,median or road setbacks will attract N20,000 forfirst offenders, while subsequent offence will getN30,000fine to the motorcycle will be impounded.· Riding a motorcycle without crash helmet for rider/passenger will attract N20,000 or 3 years imprisonmentor both.· The law also prohibits under aged persons, less than18yrs old from riding a motorcycle and the fine isN20,000· Operating a motorcycle in a restricted area or prohibited route will attract fine of N20,000 or the motorcycle will be impounded· Smoking while driving will attract N20,000· Failure to give way to traffic on the left at aroundabout is N20,000· Disobeying traffic control will attract a fine of N20,000· Violation of route by commercial vehicles will attractN20,000· Driving without valid driving license will attract vehicle impoundment· Learners driving without permit will attract a fine of N20,000· Driving with fake number plate will attract N20,000 forfirst offenders and 6 months imprisonment or both for subsequent infractions. Also outlawed are the following;· Driving without seat belt.· Eating/making phone calls on wheel.· Driving without number plate· Use of siren except in emergency PLEASE BE GUIDED
