I present myself before you as one of the Candidate for Election of Central Council Members of ICSI from Western Region. With all humility at my command, I approach you for your valuable support. You may kindly recall that with your support, trust and confidence, I was elected as Central Council Member of Institute from Western Region for the term 1995-97. I was also elected as a Regional Council Member from Eastern Region of ICSI (1989-91). Thus I had the privilege to represent both Eastern Region as well as Western Region of ICSI. During my tenure as a Member of Regional Council of EIRC of ICSI and Central Council Member of ICSI, I had effectively served on various Committees including Professional development Committee, CCRT (now CCGRT) Building Committee etc. The interest of our esteemed Members whether in the Whole Time Employment or in Whole Time Practice has always been close to my heart. The Companies Act, 2013 and Rules framed thereunder created flutter amongst the Company Secretaries and Students pursuing the CS Course. All of a sudden it appeared that there was no future for Company Secretaries under the new dispensation as more than 8 lakh Private Limited Companies were not required to employ a Company Secretary. I spearheaded the concerns of my fellow Colleagues and stood thick and thin with them and their collective voice ultimately brought positive results. There is a legitimate expectation from esteemed Members of our Institute for exploring new career opportunities and to re-shape the profile of the Company Secretaries. The Companies Act, 2013 though has given much coveted recognition to a Company Secretary as a Key Managerial Personnel, much more is, however, required to be done to broaden the contours of our Profession to keep pace with the rapid changes taking place in the business environment commensurate with the fast economic growth registered in the past few years. We have ushered in a new era and our Country is poised to make a rapid growth. A new generation of young but highly talented, motivated and tech savvy Company Secretaries have entered the profession. If elected, it shall be my sincere endeavor to pursue relentlessly for their overall development so that they excel in their performance with proven competence. It shall be my endeavour to ensure: Better and more employment opportunities for Members joining industry. Paid seminars and training programmes to be held at affordable cost. Greater and more effective recognition and say of the profession and the Government and various regulatory authorities.
