Dear colleagues, we would really appreciate your help in circulating this call for abstracts to the International Urban Studies Congress that will take place on April 16-17 2015 in Eskisehir, Turkey. The original deadline for submitting abstracts has been extended to JANUARY 15th due to problems we have been experiencing circulating the announcement internationally. Serife Genis ----------------------- Dear colleagues we would like to invite you to submit abstracts to the International Urban Studies Congress we are organizing in Eskisehir, Turkey on April 16-17, 2015. This is an interdisciplinary Congress and we would like to host scholars as well as activists and practitioners who are engaged in urban issues in different ways and at diverse levels. The theme of the Congress is problems facing the present-day city, a city that is embedded in a world increasingly becoming transnational, global and neoliberal. In this world, cities in the global north and south are connected to each other more than ever and they are simultaneously converging and diverging in complex ways. In this context, we need to think about new ways of understanding and conceptualizing the problems facing cities as well as existing and possible solutions to these problems at local, regional and global scales. Given this theme, we invite abstracts that are addressing a wide range issues facing present-day city that range from new urban policies, patterns and dynamics of socio-spatial inequalities, environmental issues, housing issues and spatial struggles for justice and equality. We value international participation, as we would like to initiate an exchange of ideas between scholars about the problems facing the present-day cities in the global north and global south and think about ways of common solutions and ways of action. Participation in the Congress is free. There is no registration fee. We will try to accommodate all participants on Eskisehir Anadolu University facilities for a reasonable fee but space could be limited and participants are also encouraged to plan their accommodation beforehand.
