Dear friends. Hello, warm wishes, and know you are in my thoughts. Today we remember a giant in the United States and around the world: Martin Luther King, a pioneer of the Civil Rights Movement. Behind the bars of a Birmingham jail cell, he reminded us that “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”. Last summer, we recognized the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, and we honoured all who fought and died for civil rights, and were reminded that the journey is not complete. Please share how you marked today, or what you remember of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., or what you hope his legacy brings. In addition to marking this special day, I had the honour of first speaking at the Kingsway Humber Kiwanis Club on child hunger, and the need for a national nutrition program in Canada. I was touched by this group’s commitment to children and youth, and look forward to volunteering at the Kiwanis Music Festival for them! I then drove up to Brampton to speak to inspiring students at Sheridan College about social policy in Canada. I left thinking the future is in good hands, as these fourth-year students had good and important ideas for our great country. Sending you all my best!
