Dear friends, Shabbat shalom. As I write this post, ready to light Shabbat candles, I am already thinking about next week, when I will have my second public Friday Shabbat service under the auspices of my Synagogue Without Walls. I am very excited about the prospect of doing it my way. One of the things that I constantly confronted in congregational life was the variety of needs people expressed that they had for services. As far as I am concerned it is not possible to satisfy all those needs in one service, especially as the issue of spirituality was concerned. So, my solution is to make it very clear what my service is about and in that way I hope it will appeal to folks who are like minded. I understand the Shabbat experience to be a celebration of rest, re-creation and meditation. Meditation, learning how to do it and practicing it as part of a service, is , as far as I am concerned, key to achieving spirituality. It means learning to let distractions go; and we are constantly distracted. Also guided meditation , which a story that helps us mediate and leave distractions behind. All thisto help us feel a sense of connectedness with what I call the divine--that is, unity with everything. Wow, to much! All in all, youre invited to experience what I am trying to explain on Friday, ovember 22 at 7:30 pm at the Seven Oaks Club House.
