Dear friends, family and those from my past - Wow - what a year it has been. Never would I have expected to wind up in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit of a heart transplant hospital, but that obvioulsy happened and now, looking back three months later, it seems somewhat surreal. Just a quick update - my echo in October showed great improvement (meaning a result of 50%+ - close to the lower end of a normal range. In comparison to when I got to the hospital it was 3-8%). And more recently, blood work results showing that my immune system is indeed recovering as well - perhaps not a quickly as I would like, but my expectations on test results seem to be set MUCH higher than the medical folks taking care of me. So basically, I still need to wear a mask in public places or large groups of people and avoid confined spaces, kids and anyone who is sick, especially now during the flu season. Not bad really compared to everything else Ive been through. We want to express again our gratitude to all of you who followed my progress, sent words of encouragement and demonstrated to me (and to Sean) just how incredible of a support system of love and friendship we have surrounding us. Thank you does not come close to expressing how much it all means to us...but it all enabled us to take things an hour or day at at time and gotten me to this point. My prognosis long-term looks good. No reason to believe that my heart should slip back or not serve me well into the future. As always in life, there are no guarantees, but optimism has served me well thus far, so I see no reason to abandon it now! Weve certainly learned and have a new appreciation for life and how unpredictable and precious it is. I for one plan not to waste a moment of it moving forward!
