Dear nerdy (aka awesome) friends, a student posed me the following word problem: You have 12 balls labelled A-L. 11 of these balls have the same weight, w, while one has a different weight, x (NOTE: It is NOT specified if x > w or x < w, you just know x != w). You also have a magical scale, which only works three times. This scale has two baskets, and once activated will tell you if both baskets are equal, or which basket is heavier. How do you identify the oddball of weight x? (Ive got what I believe is a good solution, so if you are maddeningly stuck just let me know)
