Dear ones, during the past several weeks I was faced with making - TopicsExpress

Dear ones, during the past several weeks I was faced with making one of the most difficult decisions (or several decisions) I’ve ever had to make. I’m requesting your prayers for both me and my mom. On December 1st Mom moved to an assisted living facility that specializes in Alzheimer’s care. She’s living in the assisted living section and will transfer to the Memory Care unit when that level of care becomes necessary. This is an unwelcome and difficult transition for her as she loves her home that she’s lived in for 51 years. It’s the only home she and Daddy ever owned and the familiarity and memories made there were a comfort for her. As her primary caregiver, I determined to honor my mother’s wishes and made arrangements to keep her in her home as long as I could, including providing round-the-clock caregivers. All of the elder care experts with whom I’ve consulted said there will be an incident or series of incidents that will make it very clear that the time had come to move her to assisted living. Well, they were right. I can no longer provide her with the care and protection she needs. The brain injury, which was a result of a fall last August, seems to have accelerated the progression of her disease. After she was released from the hospital in September it appears she may have been victimized by a caregiver to the tune of several thousand dollars. A report has been made to the state and an investigation into the circumstances has started. I’m devastated to think she may have been taken advantage of because I delayed in making the hard decision to move her to assisted living (I “chickened out” twice, thinking I could make this work.) I need your prayers as I know I’ll be faced with more difficulties and decisions during the next several months. It will take Mom a while to adjust to her new living arrangement (by the way, she’s doing much better than I thought she would) and I’ll be working with the investigators to try to figure out what happened to the money. If you would like to send a card to Mom please message me and I will send you her new address. If it’s not too much trouble, please tuck your picture in the card so she will recognize who sent it to her. This disease is cruel. My mom is slowly slipping away and it’s breaking my heart. I’m desperately trying to keep her engaged so your cards, pictures, and visits really help and are greatly appreciated. Mom can’t express her gratitude, but please know that I am eternally grateful for your prayers and your compassion toward Mom.
