Dear white people I dont blame you for everything, but I blame you for most of it. I would assign some of the blame to black people too but I cant do that publicly. Blacks are too broken for that. Rather as my friends, family, lovers, business associates and colleagues I would prefer we both draw lessons from my relationship with blame. The difficult choices I face with regards to when to blame,how to blame and who to assign the blame to. Ill leave you with most of the blame because I as a black man Have no strength to carry blame for anything else anymore. Life is tough as a black man because most of the systems designed to be against us were designed by whites. I would solely love the human in you if only you would let me see it now and then. Not only when we share a power dynamic where you hold all te advantage but in just that, a human moment. Youre very stingy with those but I still love you because you still claim to be human and when it comes to other whites you are most certainly an exceptional human. Why you for me? Often chastised for breaking your language because you lose the power to instruct me with it I am bored with blaming you but loose no vigour in doing so because everyday I see it. The looks, the stares,the gawks, the awkward moments. Innocent turned guilty looks from your children, the financial system, immigration laws, tax, tax exemptions, tax deductions all systems designed to serve you and have me serve you by auxiliary make me tempted to bow down to the pressure to hate you but I dont. I have not yet mastered the mechanisms through which I can perceive hate or love or resentment or blame. For I am still human, I am learning. Still learning to unlearn. Give me time. When one day you find the courage to acknowledge the truth about how your advancement has been at the expense of the dignity of black people then we can talk. Maybe you can teach me how to talk in a way where you would show some respect or even take time to listen to the pain you have caused me without being bound by the delicate intricacies of blame.
