Dear you, I hope you will read carefully as I try to do my best to explain this to you. Firstly understand that these whales are not threatened, and are not more contagious than a Coca Cola. Studies have even proven that drinking 1 small Cola a day will feed you more mercury than 1 piece of whale a day. The whale meat is not eaten fresh, it has to be stored and dried f before consumption. - and do you really know all the chemicals in the food you eat; the meat and veggies?. Secondly, we do not kill the whales for fun nor is it because of tradition. We eat them. Please take in concideration that my country, 18 small islands up north, are not warm and rich of crops like Iceland, Scotland, or Norway. We are way colder, foggier, and the land is not usable for any crops except for potatoes and perhaps a few carrots and what else that does not need a lot of sun. Nothing really grows here, and with all the land being used for sheep we cannot mass produce those potatoes and carrots. The country is too small to place animals for breeding and large production like in other countries. We have a few farmers who have sheep, and the cows we have are used for milk sometimes meat too. We catch birds, and fish. This is all we can get. And just because we can get this from our own country it does not mean it is any cheaper for us. It is in fact more expensive, the farmers need their money too. Most of the food we eat is imported. The country is in a financial crisis. The food prices have gone high. Since medical care is free, eye doctors and dentists too - if you are under the age of 16.. We pay a lot of taxes!. And many families are drowning in taxes. The cheapest apartments you can rent costs 1462 dollars a month, if you count internet, heat, water etc. And a normal family pays 1300 dollars in taxes. Buying food for 1 meal for a family will cost you 36 dollars a day, if you go with the cheapest. And here people, who do not know how much this whale means to us, what a blessing it truly is to us! Are telling us not to kill them? Each and everyone who takes part in the whaling, or is at the beach at the time it is cut into equal pieces, gets to write their name on a paper. Every name on that paper can get a piece. A piece big enough to last 1-2 years. And it is free. Think of the poor families? Then who is telling us it is barbaric? Every animal bleeds, the bigger the more. For many it means food in the house. Although the critical state of many poor families in the Faroes are taboo. We use approved tools and the whale dies within seconds. Then gets dragged to the shore. It is done as quietly and calm as possible, and all the videos shown of our country rushing into the ocean, being loud and with a viking smirk ont their faces are old. Incredibly old. Times have changed. If we are to stop getting food from this food source, then we have to import more food from other countries. The food prices will go even higher. Why can the world not open their eyes to what is really going on? If they wish the killing to be stopped then donate the money to our country. Give us food. Is this all about the whales? What about the poor families?
