#DearSonOfJomo, #TurkanaSiKenya via @WangaiFidel In the month of September 2013, Kenya discovered large volumes of underground water (aquifiers) that hydrologists anticipate can be enough to meet the country’s need for 70 years. 70 years I repeat. A population of +40 million. The 250 billion cubic metres of water contained in an aquifer have been discovered at the foot of Mt Mogila in the Lotikipi area along the Kenya-South Sudan boarder in Lokichoggio. It is the same region where we have Lake Turkana. Meanwhile, a grandmother had to feed dogs to her starving grandchildren. In the same part of Kenya known as Turkana. She said that on her way to Kakuma, she spotted a dog which had made a shelter and given birth to five puppies. “I picked two for our meal as I didn’t want my grandchildren to keep suffering.” More than 400,000 people are facing starvation in Turkana county due to drought. Yet the govt seems to be doing absolutely nothing to solve the water problem that is causing malnutrition and starvation. It is a govt that cannot harness the rain water, lake or dig boreholes. It is the same govt that intends to build a standard gauge railway at whatever cost. The same govt that will spend an additional 100M to soup up the 400M official residence of one Deputy President. 30M to purchase Ipads for the Senators and MPs. 5.8 BILLION to construct a parliamentary square with an exclusive tunnel for their selfish use. Yet drilling a standard gauge borehole costs around 3M. A government that cannot provide water for its citizenry is as usefool as the letters ee in the word pee. Capitalism is a gentlemans modern day method of slavery. It takes necessities from the many to give luxuries to the few.
