Death : 30 March 1949 - Prince Harald of Denmark, uncle to King Frederick IX of Denmark. Born on 8 October 1876, he was the fourth child and third son of Crown Prince Frederick of Denmark (later King Frederick VIII) and Crown Princess Louise, the only daughter of Charles XV of Sweden and Princess Louise of the Netherlands. The Prince was thus brother to two kings : Christian X of Denmark and Haakon VII of Norway. The Prince served in the Royal Danish Army from the age of 17, until he was 50, when he retired from active service with the rank of Major General. However in 1933, his brother King Christian X appointed him Lieutenant General. At his death he left a widow, Princess Helena, who had been exiled from Denmark on 30 May 1945, because of her sympathy for the German occupation and the Nazi party after the German occupation of Denmark in 1940. She was only allowed to return to Denmark in 1947, when Prince Harald fell gravely ill. Princess Helena survived her husband by 13 years and died in 1962. Both are buried at Roskilde Cathedral.
