Keroka Traffic Base Commander Abraham Ndegwa said the death toll remains at six. The accident occurred on Wednesday evening. Those who survived the grisly accident at Metamaywa area on the Keroka-Sotik road continued receiving treatment at various hospitals. “So far the report we have is of six passengers who died instantly at the scene, said the traffic police boss. No more deaths have been reported from any hospitals where the survivors were admitted,” Mr Ndegwa clarified. Many of those who were admitted at Keroka Sub-district Hospital and Kisii Level Five Hospital sustained multiple fractures and were receiving treatment. The injured are reported to be in stable condition. Mr Ndegwa said police were yet to identify all the six who died in the accident. He said one of the drivers of the ill-fated buses Mr Patrick Karioki Riogi died on the spot. A passenger, Mr Benard Mariti also died in the accident. But his two other brothers who were traveling with him, Mr Vincent Barongo and Mr Josephat Anira sustained minor injuries. The two are admitted at the Kisii Level Five Hospital in stable condition. The Nyamira Express Company proprietor Julius Mokaya Moturi sent condolences to the bereaved families and wished those injured quick recovery. “I don’t understand how it happened that my own two buses collided and caused the accident,” he said. He said one of the buses was transporting passengers from Kisii to Nairobi while the other was traveling to the opposite direction when the accident occurred.
