December 2 – What is “evangelism”? And this εὐαγγέλιον (euangelion) of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. Matthew 24:14 We must begin by defining exactly what we mean, so that we can begin to eliminate confusion and see the need for evangelism in our normal Christian lives. Our word ‘evangelise’ is taken from the Greek word euangelion, which means quite simply “the good news.” This is our starting point. We have good news, and when we tell people that good news, we are “evangelising.” It is not any more complicated or difficult than that. In fact, it is perfectly normal to want to tell someone your good news. Our good news is about God, His Son Jesus, His Holy Spirit, His love, His kingdom, His forgiveness, His healing, His transformation power and a plethora of other facets of God’s daily interaction with us. Your good news is personal. It is not just someone else’s story. It is your story of God’s daily relationship with you. Finally, your good news is relevant to other people, your friends, your family, your colleagues, and it can become their good news too. When is the last time you told someone some good news? SN
