December 30th, no106. Full team paged after the NMOC had discussed the incident with the Station Officer. Fishing equipment had been found unattended on Chesil Beach opposite the Moonfleet Manor Hotel. This marks approximately the half way point of the beach making how to get to the equipment a potentially difficult task. Luckily for us the first informant who had been on the beach for 3 hours with the equipment was still on the beach and had a boat. He gave 4 CROs a lift across the Fleet to assess the situation. Whilst this was in progress the owner of the fishing rods made himself known to us. He told us he had some kind of emergency to deal with at home and had left in a hurry. Please take all your equipment with you even if you intend to return to collect it later. If not, inform the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency where you left it to save us wasting our time. False alarm with good intent.
