Decision: I will not watch any more World Cup games as they happen (nor the commercials that come with them) until FIFA kicks Luis Suarez out of the tournament, at the very least. Suarez bit a defenders shoulder during a game yesterday and video evidence shows it clearly, plus he has served suspensions for biting opponents twice in the past, incidents that every fan is familiar with. But the referee chose to ignore fresh bite marks and let play continue, Uruguay scoring the clincher moments later. One Uruguay teammate even claimed the Italian defender had a teammate bite his shoulder at halftime in an attempt to get Suarez suspended. I commented on espn that this claim was more ridiculous than O.J.s vow to search for the real killer. So Im done until Suarez is. Really I should be threatening more. This happened because FIFA clings to the 19th century notion that one man can see everything on the field, and what he misses is just unlucky. Virtually every other sport has realized that this is unrealistic and made extra provisions for its most important matches to ensure that games are not stolen in plain sight of everyone except an official who happens to be looking elsewhere. By 2018 this better be where FIFA is. Players need to stop thinking about what the referee will miss and start thinking about what the camera will see, and what the fans will demand.
