Deep Tissue Massage Deep-Tissue Massage is a massage technique that focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue. When muscles are stressed, they are deprived of oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. Deep Tissue Massage usually focuses on quite specific areas and may cause some soreness during or immediately after the treatment. Various techniques are applied, depending on the problem and the area being treated, and levels of discomfort during treatment can be expected, especially during trigger point therapy which releases areas of great tension within certain muscle groups. The reduction in toxins provides substantial relief in the affected area, and subsequent treatments are much less likely to hurt! Deep Tissue Massage is both corrective and therapeutic. It aims to release the chronic patterns of tension in the body through slow strokes and deep finger pressure on the contracted areas, either in the direction of or going across the fibres of the muscles, tendons and fascia. It is also a great way to assist with breaking down and eliminating scar tissue from previous injuries, accidents or surgery, in order to avoid problems in this area in the future. Where Deep Tissue Massage is Beneficial For clients who generally just prefer a firmer treatment (even for relaxation purposes) For the treatment of Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) For stimulating the circulatory system by loosening muscle tissues, releasing toxins from muscles and getting blood (with oxygen) circulating properly For realigning posture by balancing connective soft tissue using myofascial release techniques It is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks, lower back tightness and sore shoulders.
