Deepika Padukone vs Katrina Kaif: ‘Ram Leela’/‘Chennai Express’ Actress Beats ‘Dhoom 3’/ ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ Star in Bollywood Box Office Performance With “Ram Leela” and “Dhoom 3” only a month apart between their release dates, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif have some competition regarding which film will be the bigger box office hit. Although Padukone is one of Bollywood’s most favored actresses, both the stars may come close to each other in sales because of their performances. Times of India reported that Times Celebex, a monthly rating index based on several measurable parameters, has ranked Kaif and Padukone for the month of August, 2013. Kaif has occupied the number one spot for seven consecutive months until Padukone’s “Chennai Express” helped her take over the top position in August. The “Ram Leela” actress kept a buzz going due to the success of “Channai Express” and many fans are excited for her new movie co-starring Ranveer Singh. Padukone will also star with Shahrukh Khan again in Farah Khan’s “Happy New Year” and is also set to film “Kochadaiyaan.” Regardless of the Times Celebex rankings, both moves are expected to have top reviews since the “Dhoom” franchise has been a huge success in the past. Since “Dhoom 3” is expected to release on Christmas and run through New Years Eve, it is expected to be a big hit as Bollywood movies allegedly receive good luck when they are released on Holidays. Katrina Kaif and Aamir Khan are expected to carry the “Dhoom” series to success. “Katrina should be ending the year with a bang too,” said the source. “‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan,’ ‘Ek Tha Tiger,’ ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan,’ ‘Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara’ were four straight hits and ‘Tees Maar Khan,’ contrary to (misplaced) beliefs, made money as well. Now it is time for Katrina’s presence to help Yash Raj Films mint some big time money as well. They have successfully managed to keep the film in news for last year or so. Now it is time to reap benefits out of it.” As the two Bollywood actresses battle it out in the box office, they’ve also been competing for big endorsements as well. Kaif has been keeping a close eye on Padukone, who also previously dated Kaif’s current boyfriend, Ranbir Kapoor. Not only has Kaif lost a few big-budget films to the “Ram Leela” actress, but other opportunities as well. Padukone has gained an endorsement deal even after raising her fee to Rs. 6 crore ($958,863) for a beauty soap ad which was allegedly offered to Katrina Kaif. Kaif was previously the face of the brand where she only charged Rs. 4 crore ($639,242). However, the deal ended up going to Padukone considering her recent success. So much for Kaif’s plan to lower her price for participating in endorsement deals. A source close to Kaif says that she is making sure she grabs all the brands coming Padukone’s way by offering a lower price. Kaif has even lost of Padukone as the leading lady in “Happy New Year” alongside with Shahrukh Khan. She also lost an opportunity to star in “Dostana 2” as well as “Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani” with her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor. I believe every film has its own course and destiny. I believe films choose me, I don’t choose films. If it’s meant to be it will happen,” said Padukone.
