Defensor takes Oath today Panay News ILOILO – Newly-elected officials of the province led by Gov. Arthur Defensor Sr. take their oath of office today before Liberal Party stalwarts Sen. Franklin Drilon and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas. The oath-taking, to be held at the provincial capitol lobby, will be preceded by a Thanksgiving Mass to be officiated by Jaro Archbishop Angel Lagdameo at 8:30 a.m. Drilon will induct reelected Defensor, incoming Vice Gov. Raul Tupas and Provincial Board members. Roxas will swear into office reelected Cong. Arthur Defensor Jr. of the 3rd District. After the ceremony, Gov. Defensor will host a luncheon for the guests at Hotel del Rio. Invited to the ceremony are mayors of the 42 municipalities and the component city of Passi, regardless of their political persuasion. Liberal Party flexed its muscles in the recent elections, sweeping majority local posts at stake. The administration party wasted no time consolidating its ranks in this province. On Tuesday, over 200 local politicians elected during the May 13 mid-term elections in Iloilo City and in the 4th and 5th districts of the province took their oath as members of the Liberal Party-affiliated Ugyon regional alliance. Also invited in today’s oath-taking are provincial government department heads, regional directors, officials of civic groups and non-government organizations, representatives from the business sector, members of the media, and the families and friends of the newly elected officials. Meanwhile, the Liberal Party-affiliated Ugyon oath-taking was hosted by party president Niel Tupas Sr., also the Liberal Party chairman in Iloilo. The mass oath taking was presided by Ugyon secretary-general, re-elected Cong. Niel Tupas Jr. of the 5th District and witnessed by Defensor. Ugyon claims to have more than 5,000 members in the city and province of Iloilo. Organized in 2005, Ugyon counts as members majority of newly elected municipal mayors, vice mayors and Sanggunian Bayan members in the 4th and 5th districts. In Iloilo City, the Liberal Party-Ugyon banner is being carried by Councilors Nielex Tupas, Lyndon Acap, R.Leone Gerochi, Arman Parcon and Liecel Zulueta. In the 4th District, newly elected Iloilo mayors Carlos Cabangal of Banate, Rolando Distura of Dumangas and Ramona Go of San Enrique broke the opposition hold and carried the Liberal Party banner to win the election.
