Delano White The actions taken from this day forward will affect your ability to succeed and save your community. greatblackspeakers/author/delanowhite Delano M. White is an entrepreneur, author, educator, mentor and community activist. The philanthropic mentor is the founder of Reignmakers, Incorporated, a community organization, whose mission is to educate and empower a community of next generation leaders. He is also the founder of the One Strike Foundation, which assists ex-offenders in successfully re-entering society as well as works to underserved youth on a pathway towards success. Delano encourages individuals of all backgrounds and situations to make the choices today that will lead to a successful future. At the age of 20, after leading what could only be described as an uneventful life and completing two years of college, Delanos world was unraveled after a series of poor choices and tragic circumstances led him to be incarcerated for two years. Many were quick to come to his side in support of what was viewed as a great injustice. Delano instead used the experience to widen his lens and leverage it to expand the parameters of the path onto which he had been chosen to walk. Delano returned to and graduated from The University of Michigan with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He became extremely active on campus, fighting for equality and diversity for all students and was selected as one of 25 individuals invited to join the campus Senior Leadership Society. While at Michigan, he also served as Chairman and C.E.O. of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), the worlds largest student managed organization. As Chairman, he oversaw the organizations operations. During his tenure, the organization boasted a membership of 15,000 members with an annual budget in excess of $8,000,000, all while receiving support from over 400 of the worlds leading corporations. As NSBE Chairperson, he helped launch the Technical OutReach Community Help (TORCH) program. The objective of the program is to tackle the Digital Divide and provide socioeconomically disadvantaged communities skills to compete in an increasingly technologically driven world. After leaving the position, Mr. White decided to turn his passion into his business. He co-founded Beans and Bytes, LLC, one of the countrys premier cybercafés with the vision of incorporating access to technology into our everyday social networks. Finding success in his personal life was not enough. He understood that his was a story of personal redemption. In order to become an agent for change, Delano knew he had to teach others how to do the same. Delano has worked diligently to become a new voice for the youth of America and the communities in which they are desperately needed to serve. Bothered by the lack of outlets willing to tell positive stories, he formed OtherSide Press, a division of Reignmakers, Incorporated and the Reignmakers Media Group, to tell these previously untold stories. The press works with authors and contributors to produce books that move beyond motivation to provide blackprints on how to build our communities. His first book, Diary of a Mad Businessman: A Laymens Guide to Starting a Business from the Ground Up was released in 2007. It is designed to help individuals who lack traditional resources to effectively obtain the resources to open and maintain a successful business. In early 2010, he released an online project entitled, Still Here, a collection of daily journals, letters, speeches and essays compiled during his two years of incarceration. The online project will culminate in the release of his personal memoir: Taking My Soul to the Laundromat: From Prison Walls to Executive Halls which will hit the bookshelves in summer 2010. Beyond his writing, he finds a variety of outlets in which to reciprocate the blessings that he has received. Beyond his empowerment seminars he serves as a life coach and recently launched Reignmakers, Apparel®. The company produces garments designed to promote positive messages of education and visionary leadership. The companys first line included the Billionaire to be, C.E.O. in training, M.D. to be and Ph.D to be designs. All of which are designed to shift the communitys concepts of what are considered cool and smart. He has awarded the Spirit of Detroit Award (2006) and the Distinguished Service Award (2007) from the Detroit City Council for his commitment to community upliftment.
