This follows an unprotected strike at the Post Office, which had resulted in the closure of some facilities due to violence. Shortly after the illegal strike action by non-permanent employees in Gauteng began on 18 August, the South African Postal Services released a statement saying: “It [the strike] has been characterised by intimidation and violence, the blocking of workplaces, assaults on employees and damage to property. “This has resulted in the closure of some post offices and mail delivery depots in an effort to ensure the safety of employees and customers. Business continuity plans have been implemented to keep operations going and to minimise the impact of the strike on our customers. At this stage, customers should expect some delay in the delivery of mail in the affected areas.” Meanwhile, the City of Johannesburg has advised its customers that the delivery of municipal accounts would be delayed due to the industrial strike. “The City of Johannesburg wishes to remind customers that they are still responsible for paying their accounts even though the statements will be delayed,” said the city council’s spokesperson for group finance Stan Maphologela. Maphologela advised customers to contact the city council’s call centre on 086 056 2874 to confirm the balance due as well as the due date for payment. Alternatively customers could visit any customer service centre to obtain the duplicate invoice of their account. The city council planned to send advisory messages to customers whose contact details were on record, Maphologela said. “We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” he said. t.co/atWmQO1Nfj LikeLike ·
